According to statistics, consumers typically begin their Christmas shopping in November, which generally means that Pound Wholesale’s distribution of Christmas products builds-up in the months before.
Statista’s data indicates that the UK public splurged a whopping £82.2million in 2022, and projected that spending could be a record £84.9million in 2023. Although 2022 was down slightly when compared with 2021, this illustrates that, despite the years of economic turbulence, that the UK public are still willing to spend their hard-earned cash for a festive season to remember!
Christmas spending largely exceeds all other seasons. In December 2022, the total public spending was £35.3 million, which is on average 6.5% higher than all other 11 months of the year.
What Pound Wholesale’s Data says about Christmas
According to our data, our busiest months are the August, September and October in the run up to Christmas, before tailing off in November and December, which are usually among our quietest months.
This illustrates the impact Christmas has on our overall sales, with revenue seemingly increasing throughout the year culminating in October. It is noteworthy that our data includes all 12 months cumulatively since 2013.
The chart below illustrates the percentage of our overall units sold attributed to our Christmas range. Peaking from August-November, year-after-year, the highest ever percentage of festive sales was October 2023, peaking at 13.11%! This illustrates that our festive performance has never been as strong, and indicates that the UK public is purchasing Xmas products as much as anytime since 2013.
Moreover, the table below, which demonstrates the percentage of orders that contains any Christmas products. On two occasions, the percentage of monthly orders that contained Christmas products in the festive months was well over 25%, in 2021 and 2023!
Since Pound Wholesale diversified its range in 2016 by adding Christmas products, the festive products sales data is largely unrecognisable. Although total units of Christmas sales peaked during the Covid-19 Pandemic years, largely because of the sheer demand to match online sales, Christmas sales this year have comfortably surpassed any other year, dwarfing our festive sales in 2019.
