With the rise of online shopping, retailers are worried they will be shutting their doors as customers choose to shop online.

Online purchasing has given consumers the option to shop when they want to shop, be it during lunch time at work or just before bed.

Shopping online increased by 23% in 2014, more shops are focusing on their online marketing to keep customers interested and some shops are even shutting up shop to focus entirely on online shopping.

This brings to question what could happen to the wholesale industry that is responsible for bringing products from the manufacturers to the retailers.

The founder of Retail Prophet, Doug Stephens, has claimed that the wholesale industry will be in trouble.

Stephens criticises the wholesale model as he says: “Imagine yourself as a retailer where you are being asked to buy in bulk, ship the goods to your store, merchandize them, train your people on them, input all the data into your systems and then ultimately take some of that product back in the form of returns all so you can eek out a profit between the wholesale price and the retail price all while your brands are selling direct to consumer.”

The problem with Stephens’ view of the wholesale market is he fails to comment on the positives of wholesale and why it is still a valuable central line today, especially in the UK.

Online shopping is continuing to grow but that doesn’t mean it means the end of retailers and shopping malls. People still want to shop and to survive the evolving realms of shopping, retailers have to adapt, stock current trends and be the first to have new products.

Pound Wholesale has years of expertise in the wholesale industry and we are the first to find new products and bring it to retailers in the UK.

Discount stores like pound shops have benefited from Pound Wholesale’s ability to provide the latest stock to keep customers coming back as well as at affordable prices.

Wholesale and retail is an important partnership that helps businesses thrive and grow together. With the internet it is easy to set up an online shop but without a good product or expert marketing you can’t expect to succeed so easily.

Although online shopping is quick and easy to do, the current wholesale model is working. Retailers are able to get a variety of different products from their wholesaler.
